Warning: Inappropriate content
Just a short blog today, but I had to share because I reached a new milestone!
There are things in a writer’s journey worth celebrating, even though on the surface they look like failures. Things like personalised rejection letters from agents or publishers. Killing your darlings. Your first hate mail.
Today I had one of those.
I was cleaning up my newsletter list, removing people who have unsubscribed and checking for feedback.
I need to know what my readers love or hate. Interestingly, the bulk of the records I deleted today were people who unsubscribed at Elton’s Song’s release (ouch!). But one in particular bailed at the welcome email.
Most people find me through my free books and are sent a welcome email wherein I introduce myself and the rest of my work. That this person unsubscribed immediately is better for us both, we’re clearly not a match. But the feedback they left?
Reason for unsubscribing: Inappropriate content.
That’s one of the nicest things they could have said to me!
I think they’re wrong, of course. I don’t think there’s anything inappropriate about witchcraft and being unapologetically queer, but I’d much rather be inappropriate than normal so…
If you like fantasy books, simple folk magic and sigils, and making the best of our imperfect lives, I have some inappropriate content just for you. You can join my newsletter here.
