Lughnasadh sand Ceremony
You’ll need:
- Different coloured sand, at least one colour for each person participating.
- A clear glass jar or bottle
- Bread
- Maple syrup or honey
- Wine or cider – something to wash the bread down
Cast circle and state intent.
Each person chooses a different circle member/family member to honour as they take turns filling the bottle. As you pour, say:
“I’m happy for <name> and their achievement/ dedication to <activity, work or school achievement, household chore>
When the bottle is full, raise energy by chanting.
We use Corn and Grain, which I sadly can’t credit. I don’t know who the author is, but it’s not me. Children might struggle with the full chant. I usually have them choose either “corn” or “grain” and they chant that one word while the adults recite the full chant.
Corn and grain, corn and grain,
all that falls shall rise again.
Grain and corn, grain and corn,
all that dies shall be reborn.
Repeat until the energy peaks, then take up the athame and channel the power into the bread. Say:
We’re a family, a woven cord. Our hard work is it’s own reward. The sun is high and the days are hot, we give thanks for all we’ve got; for health and happiness, bread and honey, our home and each other and friends and money.
Thanks to the gods and thanks to each other, thanks to the sun and the earth, our mother.
Everyone tears off a chunk of their bread as an offering, the rest is spread with honey or syrup and eaten. Hang out for a while, feel the love, and close circle when you’re ready.
