Spell for overcoming travel obstacles

Spell for overcoming travel obstacles

This spell has been serving me for over a decade. I don’t even care how young it might sound, because it works.

In typical baby witch fashion the first time I cast this spell I used many elements: a bag charm, knot magick, candle magick, and a talisman. The second time I used it I ditched the knot magick and wrapped the talisman and stones in tissue paper. Sometimes I use different runes or sigils, depending on what I needed. This time I’ll be tweaking it to deal with two things: parental lack of time and the pandemic.

One of my old talismans, stuck into my book of shadows. It's a pentacle and the spaces are filled with runes.

My days of using a full-length taper for my candle spells are long gone, let me tell you! I used to find time every night to work on multiple spells and I didn’t know how wonderful that was. (Gratitude swells within me when I look back).

I know lots of witches use birthday candles for their candle magick, but I like to carve and dress the candle, so that’s not going to happen. I can buy mini spell candles online, but I just… don’t. So I’ll either use a tea light or I’ll nix the candle aspect and find out what happens.

Timing: Travel spells are best cast when it’s windy. Failing that, I’d pick a Wednesday. Or whenever you have the time – we live in the real world.

You’ll need:

  • A spell bag in whatever colour says “safe travel” to you.
  • Threads to tie the bag if you’re making your own. Plait Black, blue and either gold or orange threads. If you don’t have those, pink and green are both good for luck. If you have long hair, consider plaiting it in.
  • Paper and pens for making the talisman. If you’re big on colour magick, incorporate it here.
  • Crystals or herbs to put in the bag. I’ve always used rocks for this spell because it’s not good to take plants across borders. I don’t need to  be explaining my witchcraft to security personnel, no thank you. In the past I’ve used malachite, moonstone, garnet, labradorite or lapis lazuli, so those are solid options. Blue lace agate and aventurine would also do the trick.

The ritual:

  1. Cast circle if that’s your jam and you have time. If you don’t, at least have a shower and turn on some appropriate tunes.
  2. Lay out what you need on your altar or workspace.
  3. If you’re using a candle, carve, dress and light it, reciting the incantation (below)
  4. If you’re making a cord, do so now. Recite the incantation again.
  5. Remind yourself of the properties of each stone you’re using and charge them.
  6. Begin the talisman. I always use a pentacle as the base for this design because of it’s protective properties. Then in each space I put a rune or sigil that aligns with my needs and goal. One or more of these symbols will either be a personal sigil, initials, or a symbol that represents my travel group.
  7. Symbols I’ve used in the past include: triple moon, Taurus/god, teiwaz, algiz, raido, ehwaz, othela, fehu, wunjo, uruz.
  8. This time I’ll include  more sigils, including this simplified protection from covid sigil:
A badly drawn digital sigil that looks kinda like a dagger pointing up. It has a round shield shaped cross guard.
You need to add symbols or initials representing the people you intend to protect with this sigil.

As you work, recite the incantation to keep you focused.

Incantation:

Let nothing stop me reaching this goal I have set,
No time delays, no hideous debt,
No little fumbles or massive mistakes,
No paperwork glitches or issues with dates.
Grant me my wings so that I may fly free
All the way to <destination>
So shall it be.

On the back of the talisman inscribe the dates of your flights.

Kiss your talisman, then place it in the bag. Add your stones, herbs or other ingredients and seal the bag with four knots for physical manifestation.

You’re done! Either let the candle burn out, or re-light it when you’re feeling anxious, hold the charm bag and repeat the incantation. Keep the charm on your person or inside your pillowcase.

Happy flying!
