Cozy Lughnasadh Ritual
I feel like half of all my religious observances boil down to “count blessings and look to the future with wonder and hope.” The imagery changes but the core? Not so much. Guess I’m a basic witch. No shame here. For me, Lughnasadh has an added focus of diligence and teamwork. Of parts coming together. That’s the heart of this ritual.

You’ll need:
Flour
Bread
Honey or golden syrup
Seasonal fruit
Journal or book of shadows if you don’t want to brag out loud
Mead, beer, or apple juice
The ritual:
Cast circle
Statement of intent:
In the afterglow of late summer, we are nature. Lulled and languorous. Our gardens are heavy with fruit, as are the communities that feed us with their labour, and the air hums, full of pollinators. This is the bright fertility of summer, our rewards. I kneel here in gratitude for nature’s richness, safe in the knowledge the universe conspires to see me succeed. I have community around me. I have help when I need it. I have friends to share my fortune with. I hold the seeds for tomorrow. How lucky are we, to be here, together, at this time?
The earth works hard for us, the nature lends us her energy. We are loved and protected, and overflowing with gratitude. I come here to turn the wheel.
Draw a spiral in flour, using your bare hands. Feel the texture under your fingers. Say:
I recognise how far I’ve come. This time next year, I’ll be celebrating the harvest of today’s efforts.
Slather your bread with syrup or honey as you say:
Challenge is sweet
Achievement is sweet
Prosperity is sweet
Life is sweet
Journal or speak aloud about your achievements. Past you would be so proud – tell them how far you’ve come. Here’s a prompt to get you started:
Everything is a process. Every harvest is the culmination of hard work, planning, and cooperation. I am a work in progress. This past year I have harvested_________ through the hard work of ________.
Snack on some of your summer fruit while you chat or journal and enjoy the warm glow of your sacred space. Let the spirit of Lughnasadh infuse you.
When you’re done, say:
Land is sacred
Soil is sacred
Grain is sacred
I am sacred
Pour/place your offering while giving your deepest thanks, then in your own time, close the circle.
Happy Harvest!
